#TBRtakedown & Bout of Books Wrap-Up

That’s it! I’m calling it quits for these readathons. I know that I still have five hours left, but I’m happy with how much I read. Plus, I don’t want to push myself into a reading slump so early in the year, so let’s talk about what I read this week. (Links lead to the Goodreads page.)

Books completed: 6
Pages read: 1,293
#TBRtakedown challenges completed: 6 (book from your most recent book haul, book on your TBR Shelf over a year, book outside your comfort zone, a sequel in a series, a FIRE color book, a non-novel item)

Rat Queens, Vol. 2: The Far Reaching Tentacles of N’rygoth
I was excited to read this because I really loved the first volume, but something about this volume just felt off. I can’t place my finger on what that is, but it was lacking the excitement and fun that the first one had. A little disappointing, but still worth a read. ★★★☆☆

Ms. Marvel, Vol. 4: Last Days
This is definitely my favorite ongoing comic series as of now. I love the diversity of the characters, how important family is to Kamala, and how every volume addresses issues that are relevant to today. Honestly, perfection. ★★★★★

Death Note: Black Edition, Vol. 5
This volume was so much fun! The last two volumes were a little dull and rushed in my opinion, so I was pleasantly surprised with the direction that this volume went. It’s so fun to see the back in forth between the two sides and I’m excited for the concluding volume. ★★★★★

Wytches, Vol. 1
This volume was definitely out of my comfort zone, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect and I walked away feeling very meh towards it. It wasn’t bad by any means, but the story felt very disjointed to me because it moved from past to present and from person to person without any type of fluidity. I was however a big fan of the artwork, but I’m not sure if I’ll continue on with this series. ★★★☆☆

The Chosen One
This book was really interesting because it’s not a subject that I’ve ever read about and while I was sympathetic towards the characters I don’t think it had anything to do with the writing and everything to do with the subject matter. I would say it was decent, but it could have used another 30 pages to wrap things up. ★★★☆☆

Humans of New York: Stories
I don’t know what to say about HONY just that I love it so much. I’m so happy that HONY developed into a storytelling platform because it’s so incredibly inspiring and eye-opening. ★★★★★

Did you guys participate in these readathons? How’d it go??

Bout of Books Challenge: Rainbows

b385ad3d-5380-4a7a-8b55-c6513cf2208c.jpgToday is day three of Bout of Books and I’ve hardly done any reading, so why not do another challenge??!

Today’s challenge is being hosted by Rebecca from Ranty Runt of a Reader and the challenge is to either make a rainbow with books or to list authors surnames using ROYGBIV. I figured, why not do both?!??

R – Rowling, J.K.
O – Orwell, George
Y – Yoon, Nicola
G – Green, John
B – Burroughs, Augusten
I – Ishiguro, Kazuo
V – Vaughan, Brian K.

I’ve read books by all of these authors (besides Ishiguro) and loved them! I did, however, just get Never Let Me Go and I can’t wait to read it!

Bout of Books Challenge: Would You Rather…

Today is the second day of the Bout of Books readathon and Lori over at Writing My Own Fairy Tale is hosting today’s challenge. Today’s challenge is a bookish themed “Would you rather…” Let’s do this.

Would you rather lend books to someone who dog-ears pages or to someone who reads with cheesy Cheetos fingers?
I would much rather lend books to someone who dog-ears pages. I don’t personally dog-ear pages, but it really doesn’t bother me that much.

Would you rather be able to meet one character of your choice or meet one author of your choice?
UGH. Why is this a question????? I would love to meet J.K. Rowling, but this would be my only chance to meet Remus Lupin, so I can’t really pass that up, but I’m still like??? Okay. OKAY. Lupin. I’d have to meet Lupin.

Would you rather never be allowed in a book store again or never be allowed in a library again?
Initially I was thinking that I would rather not be allowed in a library again, but then I remembered that you can buy books online (duh!), so I wouldn’t need to go into a book store. Plus, I’m all about supporting my local library, so…goodbye book stores. We had a good run.

Would you rather have to choose one of your favorite characters to die in their book or have to pick one of your favorite couples to break up in their book?
So I feel like this question is easier than I initially thought it would be, because I would definitely rather my favorite character be alive. That’s basically the dream.

Would you rather be required to read Twilight once a year for the rest of your life or The Scarlet Letter once a year for the rest of your life?
I mean, I’ve never read The Scarlet Letter, but I’d imagine it would take me longer to read than Twilight and if I’m rereading a book every year, I would prefer for it to not take up so much time. Plus, I really don’t think Twilight is as bad as everyone says it is.

#TBRTakedown 3.0

It’s going to be a year of readathons, isn’t it? #TBRTakedown was created by Shannon over at LeaningLights and she will also be hosting sprints over on her twitter, so make sure to check her out there too! This readathon will take place from January 4th – January 10th and you can sign up here.

#TBRTakedown is a pretty laid back readathon, but there are some prompts which I based my TBR off of, so here’s what I have planned:

1. Read a book from your most recent book haul. Rat Queens Vol. 2

2. Read a book on your TBR Shelf over a year (or longest). The Chosen One

3. Read a book outside your comfort zone! Wytches

4. Read a first book in a series. The 5th Wave

5. Complete a series/Read a sequel in a series Death Note Vol. 5

6. Read a FIRE color book (Fire colours such as shades of red, pink, purple, lilac, burgundy.) Ms. Marvel Vol. 4

7. Read a non-novel item: poem, verse, novella, short story, etc. Death Note Vol. 6

Some of these books I already really want to read, so I’m anxiously awaiting January 4th! Plus, I’m excited to finally finish the Death Note series which I started in the middle of 2015 and never finished for whatever reason. Let me know if you’re participating and what you’ll be reading.

Bout of Books 15

BoB15-200x200The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 4th and runs through Sunday, January 10th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 15 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I’m so excited for this round of Bout of Books! I’ve participated in the past, primarily on twitter, but this is going to be my first round on this blog.

I don’t have any specific books that I want to read during the readathon because I’m very much a mood reader, but I’d like to read at least three books. Three books isn’t a lot for me, but I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself so early in the year.

Are any of you guys participating? What are your goals for the readathon?
